Applications for Places

The rush of applications for positions under Mr. Cowdes, at the postoffice, continues about as great as ever. Among the applicants for letter carriers are Messrs. James MeGee, John Mason, William Turner, Chris. Wincher, Gus. Wincher and Charles Cowan. Jack Adams is an applicant for a clerkship, as are also W. A. Janes. Jack Cowl and James Hall, of the Intelligencer force, according to current rumor. It is understood, however, that Mr William Fisher will probably be chief clerk, as Mr. Hall is not inclined to push his application. Rumor also puts Ralph Whitehead, of the Island, for Superintendent of Carriers, as having a tolerably sure thing.
