So any attempt to decide on the merits of such opposing questions, we prefer presenting them to "whom they may concern," and advising the persons interested to examine and decide for themselves. Those who have felt proud of their Mosaic ancestry, will "pitch into" Darwin with many and sharp tones in their forks. Our astronomers will be very jealous of the theories they have set forth, while the doctors will be stimulated by the perusal of the bold and startling charges of Dr. Curtis, to polish up anew their literary scalpels, their lancets, and their forceps, and sally forth to save from total demolition their venerated science, their enormous libraries, and their profitable profession.
We are rather pleased to listen to or read wars of words, provided they are conducted with due respect for the opinions and feelings of the opponents; but we shall take all due precaution to escape both the Gehenna of theologists, and the practices of all the doctors. But, since health is the most valuable of all earthly possessions; we would recommend to all a careful study of whatever proposes to preserve or restore it, and such are the works of Dr. Curtis, to which the reader is referred.
