"Fight hard and fight fair while on the gridiron, but remember its all over when the gun sounds."

These were the words of Coach Leo Calland of San Diego State College in an address given to members of the El Centro junior chamber of commerce, valley high school coaches, team captains and valley officials at the Second Annual Football Rally at the California hotel Tuesday night.

Kindle Fires
Coach Calland, who was principal speaker, pointed out that it was the spectators on the side lines who kindle the fires of competition until they become burning infernos.

Other guest speakers brought out that trouble doesn't start on the playing field or between student bodies but among bibulous alumni.

Junior Todd, president of the San Diego county official's association, presided. The rally was attended by Morris Gross, San Diego State athletic director, Coaches W. S. Taylor of El Centro, Noval Walker of Holtville, Marvin Clark of Brawley and Ed Covington of Calexico, Team Captains Gene Wagoner and Homer Spear of El Centro, Joe Andrade of Calexico, Henry Sasaki of Brawley and Fred Lackey of Holtville. Assistant Coach Earl Poole of El Centro, and officials V. N. Hansen and Pete Sauers also attended.

Optimistic Attitude
Valley coaches and captains took on a friendly, optimistic attitude when referring to the coming season, each feeling sure his team will finish high. There was, however, a general feeling that Calexico will be tops this year.

D. W. Ketchen was chairman. He expressed his feeling that the valley is prepared for its biggest season.

The group viewed motion pictures of the Stanford-Alabama Rose Bowl game of last January first immediately after the dinner.
