On Wednesday, November 25, the pupils of A. F. Herndon School enjoyed a unique and impressive Thanksgiving Assembly Program.
It was presented by the pupils of the 6th grade. Mrs. V. A. Ponder, teacher.
The program, with Julius C. Daughtry Jr. presiding, included a short devotional period and an original skit: "The Pilgrims" which was written by the 6th grade pupils.
The guest of honor at the program was Mrs. Amelia Weaver who was recently retired from service as a maid in the Public School System. She had served faithfully for several years at A. F. Herndon School.
In behalf of the Herndon School family Mrs. Odessa P. Davie, the principal, presented to Mrs. Weaver a cash purse and a huge basket of Thanksgiving "goodies". In making the presentation she praised highly the unselfish and loyal service rendered by Mrs. Weaver to the school. Teachers and pupils were very happy to see and greet her again. She was accompanied by her son, Mr. Roy Whatley.
The principal then thanked the boys and girls for their thoughtful kindness as was expressed by the large number of lovely baskets contributed for the "needy". She wished for each a happy Thanksgiving.
