Marilyn Monroe managed to hit page one again, via
her press conference with Laurence Olivier, though pro-
bably not the way Sir Larry planned it. The trick turner:
a weary strap plus one good sigh, La Monroe never ceased
to be copy even though her absence from Hollywood and
films was a long one, nor have the rumors of roles she
hankers for stopped with the definite scheduling of two
Monroe movies. The latest story goes that she wants to
play a Southern spy in a Civil War yarn. . . The parties
of the first and second parts in the Don Barry-Susan
Hayward episode are forgetting it all, he with Linda Dar-

horizons. Susie is following up her recent vocal coup with
dancing lessons . . . Russ Tamblyn and Venetia Stevenson
made Cupid deliriously happy by wedding on Valentine's
Day. He's twenty-one, she's seventeen, and to this day
Russ insists, "I don't believe in young marriages." . . .
You'll find the full How Come in MOVIE LIFE . . . Friends
are glad to see that Dick Long's at last going out a bit.
He's had a few dates with Mara Corday . . . So as not
to let a month go by without a Dick Haymes mention, a
long-hallowed custom of gossipers coast to coast. here's
the comment of Rita Lynn, his most recent ex-girl, on her
latest - "He's in show business. thank God!" . . . Nora
Flynn Haymes does not seem this viewpoint. Her latest
date, Bob Wagner . . . Meanwhile, Ray Hakin is ready to
make Rita Hayworth "Cleopatra." . . . It took a long time,
but someone finally noticed that Jayne Mansfield has a
great VOICE . . Rock Hudson and Phyllis Gates had to
sell the dream house they spent months decorating. They
came back from their honeymoon to discover that their
address had leaked out: their lawn was a brown shadow
of its former self 'cause the Souvenir Hunters deemed
no blade of grass too small for their attention. Further-
more, they couldn't so much as put a milk bottle out-
side the door without being mobbed . . . Brenda Marshall
resisted hubby Bill Holden's pleas to come out of retire-
ment long enough to co-star in his latest. His four a.m.
set calls may or may not have been a deciding factor.
