E. E. Ball, resident engineer for the Santa Fe at this place, returned recently from a trip in Southern Mexico, near the Guatemala border. He took a lay-off from his duties here on April 5th for a month and accepted a position as engineer for the Pan-American Railroad at a salary of five hundred dollars per month, Mexican money. After a short stay Mr. Ball decided that Arizona was good enough for him and came home, although he was offered more money to remain. He stopped over in the City of Mexico and there met George Sullivan, C. A. Greenlaw and J. R. Treat, all ex-residents of Coconino County. He says that country is not yet ready for white men, and is satisfied to resume his position with the Santa Fe.
