Decrease In Rate Of Growth
The Census Bureau estimates that the next several decades will see a steady decrease in the rate of population growth in the country.
Whereas there was an increase in population of 7.2 percent during the decade from 1930 to 1940, it is estimated that in the ten years beginning in 1970 the increase will be only 1.2 percent. The total population in 1980 is expected to be about 133,000,000, as compared with 131,669,275 in the 1940 Census. A slight additional increase in population is anticipated between 1980 and 1990 but after that an absolute decrease in numbers will set in.
