Mother's Day
As stated in our last week's issue, a Mother's Day programme has been arranged for Sunday morning, the service to be held at the Methodist church at 11 o'clock. Of course it is understood that there is nothing denominational about this service, and exercises similar to ours will be held in thousands of churches on the 14th.
It is a credit to any town or community that has helped to popularize this observance, which has received national recognition and is now observed almost universally.
The history of its origin has been given repeatedly, and its purpose is so well understood that no extensive or urgent appeal is needed to make of it a success or awaken interest. The suggestions made for the general observance of the day are about as follows: If your mother is living, wear a white flower—preferably a white carnation—in her honor, and write to her if you are away from home. If your mother is dead, wear the flower in memory of her, place flowers on her grave, or have it done if you are absent. No matter whether you attend a public service or not, wherever you may be, wear a white flower Sunday, May 14th.
The child—old or young—who can "see nothing in it," belongs to a class, thoughtless and careless, who through life has omitted many little kindnesses and courtesies which would have brightened and gladdened a mother's heart. To do her reverence, whether living or gone before, will make us all better.
Attend some public service, if you can, but do not fail to wear the white flower, though you may be alone on the farm. The carnation is "Mother's Day" flower, but if you cannot get one, find a pretty wild flower or fragrant blossom to be seen on every hand at this season.
God bless our mothers!
