Full Text

Homicide.—On Thursday night last, about eight o'clock, a lad named Robert Jackson was shot at and killed, on one of our wharves, by a black man, named Harry Fry, the property of Mr. John Athey, of Occoquan, Virginia. From what we hear of the circumstances, it appears that Jackson and the man had some dispute up in the town; that they came down together to the long boats lying in the dock, at Ladds' Steam Mill, on board one of which the man was employed; that the negro threatened Jackson with instant death if he advanced farther; and that, upon Jackson's advancing, he seized a loaded gun, and when but a few paces off discharged its whole contents into his side, giving him a most horrid wound. Jackson fell, and soon afterwards expired. The deed was committed within the sight and hearing of many persons, who immediately arrested the man and carried him before a magistrate. After a hearing he was fully committed for trial at the next term of the Court.—Alexandria Phænix.
