We had occasion, some ten days ago, to visit the northeastern section of this parish, along the Greenwell Springs road. We found it to be picturesque and undulating lands, interspersed with streamlets of the purest and clearest water. On every side we found that the farms had a thrifty appearance. The farmers were plowing, putting up new fencing, and in several instances building was going on. Around the farms and on the roadside we saw plenty of cattle, horses, hogs, and poultry in abundance. We cannot imagine that any settlers can go to a country that offers greater advantages than this section affords. It is healthy, furnishes abundance of wood for building or fuel, and with no greater exertion than anywhere else, will produce fruit, vegetables, cereals, etc., etc. The country abounds in game, fish, and offers every desirable inducement. We were pleased indeed to note the recuperation everywhere visible. The places of Messrs. Cunningham, O'Neil, Morgan, Dearing, Carl, Odom, Somers, Fairchilds and Stockwell attracted our attention particularly.
