To the Publick.

As the War is the main Subject of the publick Attention, many of your Readers, are inquisitive after the Knowledge of the several Princes, who are engaged in the Contention of the Day: I therefore recommend the following brief Account to your Paper, as what will render many Articles of News more entertaining and gratify your Customers in general.

It is not necessary to say any Thing more concerning the King of Great-Britain, George the Second, than that he is now in the 30th Year of his Reign, and 74th of his Age, was born October 30th Old Stile, 1683. And begun to reign June 11th Old Stile 1727.

The present King of France is Lewis XV. Great Grandson and Successor of Lewis XIV, called by the French Lewis le Grand, or Lewis the Great. He was born February 15, 1710, and began to reign September 1, 1715. So that he is now in the 47th Year of his Life, and 42d of his Reign. His Religion is Roman Catholick.

The present Emperor of Germany is Francis, Grand Duke of Tuscany, elected September 13, 1745, and is now in the 49th Year of his Life. He is elected by nine great Princes, whose Ancestors were Officers of the Houshold to the Emperor, when his Power was much greater than at present: They are the Bishops of Mentz, Cologne, and Treves, the King of Bohemia, the Duke of Saxony, (now King of Poland) the Margrave of Brandenburg, who is now King of Prussia, the Duke of Bavaria, the Count Palatine, and the Duke of Brunswick Lunenburg, now King of Great-Britain. The present Emperor married Maria Theresa Arch Dutchess of Austria and Queen of Hungary and Bohemia; she is now in the 40th Year of her Age, and became sole Heiress of the House of Austria by the Death of her Father, the late Emperor Charles VI, October 9, 1740. Their Religion is Roman Catholick; as is also that of their Subjects in general, tho' a great Part of the Hungarians are Protestants.

The Kingdom of Poland is an elective Monarchy, blended with an Aristocratical Republic, in which the Limits of Power are very uncertain between the King and the Nobility; but the common People are little better than absolute Slaves. The present King Augustus III. was Duke of Saxony, born October 7, 1696. He was a Protestant by Education, and so continued, while he was only Duke of Saxony, that being the prevailing Religion of the Saxons: But when he was elected King of Poland October 4, 1733, (as the prevailing Religion of that Kingdom is Popery) he turned over to the Church of Rome. His Hereditary Dominions, as Duke of Saxony, are conquered by the King of Prussia, and now wholly in his Hands.

The King of Prussia, who has once and again fill'd all Europe with Astonishment, and is the Wonder of this Age, is Frederick II, born January 24, 1712, and began to reign June 1, 1740; so that he is forty five Years old, and in the 17th Year of his Reign. His Kingdom is a young, but a powerful Monarchy; his Grand-father was the first King of Prussia; who being before but Margrave of Brandenburg, assumed that Title Anno 1701. This Kingdom was very little considered by the neighbouring Powers for some Time after it was erected, yet now and from the Beginning of the Reign of his present Majesty is able to make all Europe tremble. He is of the reformed Religion, and in strong Alliance with the King of Great-Britain, on which Account we readily rejoice in the Success Of his late glorious Campaign; and have Reason to hope he will be a Means in the Hand of Providence of defending and securing the Protestant Interest.
