St. Ignatius Young People Taking Active Part in Junior Fair at Ronan; They're Capturing Some Ribbons, Too

A last minute trip to the Lake County Junior fair that opened in Ronan today resulted in the following notes of interest to the young folks of this community:

Nine members of FFA are exhibiting stock.

Neither dairy or beef cattle had been judged. Richard Herschman has received a red ribbon for a fat lamb. Frabert Stobie had five red and three white ribbons for sheep and the judges were still at work there.

Bob Cordis had a blue ribbon on his boar and one on a sow. He also had a purple ribbon on the sow as champion of the breed, Yorkshire.

Rill Kelly's pen of market rabbits had a white ribbon attached. Bob Cordis' buck and doe won him a white ribbon and his pen of market rabbits carried a red ribbon, while blue ribbons were fastened to Douglas Beed's two pens of rabbits, buck and doe.

In the poultry shed, Leonard Pierce has a blue ribbon on his pen of Rhode Island Reds. Donald Owen has a red ribbon for his white leghorns and the following blue ribbons: pen of three capons, white Rocks, pen of white Rock pullets, and his white Rock cockerel.

St. Ignatius is well represented in the agricultural and horticultural and clothing exhibits but names of prize winners were not yet available.

Mrs. Anton Andersen reported that there were at least 200 more exhibits in foods this year than last. The overall quality is better. There are quite a few boys among the exhibitors in foods this year.

If you haven't seen the Fair, plan to go. You'll feel proud of the work of the young folks in the valley.

"Go to the Fair."
