NEW YORK. March 16.

CAPTAIN Thomas Cunningham, of the schooner Hope, lately from Cape Nichola Mole, informs, that being in distress, having lost his main and both topmasts, his boat, one man, and every thing off the deck, on the 17th of December last, he put into that place, when there were then lying above 70 sail of English vessels from the different British colonies, none of which would give him the least assistance, because he belonged to New York, which they all considered as having deserted the public cause, in not adopting the measures recommended by the Congress. That in this distress he lay 14 days without a boat or any assistance, till two Captains of vessels belonging to New London, from personal acquaintance, generously gave him the necessary relief, but often expressed the highest resentment against New York, for deserting the other colonies in the common cause.

Capt. Cunningham further says, that though there were many boats to be sold among the vessels, he could by no means procure one of them, though in the greatest want; and several vessels which were intended for New York, through resentment, had altered their voyage.
