A FULL STORY.—The Fed. Republican speaks of an attempt that was made to assassinate The Hon. J. Randolph, on the high-road, "by attacking him with a knife and with a pistol loaded with a quantity of saddler's nails." Mr. R. it seems, was pierced in his clothes, with the knife—and received a wound in the eye—but the pistol and the tacks do not appear to have done much execution. Nor is this wonderful. For, in sober truth, there was neither pistol, nor nail in the whole fracas. How they have crept into the story, we are at a loss to know. We plead guilty to the knife—for it was the only formidable part of the apparatus that was used—but even this hook-billed knife got into the scrape for one moment only, by a mere accident. There was no attempt made at assassination. It was a mere private quarrel, about a private affair, in which the public have no sort of concern.—But as the snow ball gathers in its progress, the Boston wits may transmogrify the pistol into a Culverin and the saddler's tacks into Canister shot—or perhaps represent it as some new infernal engine, designed by some political Machiavellian, to blow up the Honorable John Randolph.
