A new type of tuberculosis clinic was held July 31 in LaGrange, Ga., in the Troup County Health Department. It was a diagnostic and evaluation clinic, bringing together, for the first time in a public health clinic, chest specialists and known or suspected TB patients.

Dr. Clara Barrett, director of tuberculosis control for the Georgia Department of Public Health, announced the beginning of this clinic as "a great step forward in the control of tuberculosis in the state."

"Formerly, x-ray clinics were held in county health departments and the films sent in to Atlanta for reading and interpretation. Now, the x-rays are reviewed by chest specialists in the clinic and patients can get first hand information about their illness," she said.

This clinic was for known cases or suspects in Troup and part of Meriwether county. It will be held in LaGrange the last Wednesday of each month. Dr. E. H. Prescott, district director of public health for Troup-Meriwether counties said, "twenty-two people came into the clinic today to talk with Dr. David J. Sencer and Dr. Harold Keltz, both from the U. S. Public Health Service attached to the Muscogee County Health Department. They are already holding clinics for Muscogee, Harris, and Chattahoochee counties. The response here has been more than we expected and we feel that it will mean much in controlling tuberculosis in these counties."

A similar clinic will be held at the Muscogee County Health Department August 20 for people from Meriwether, Webster, Marion, Talbot, Stewart, and Schley counties.
