To Shot-Down Airmen

The St. Lawrence Island nurse, Grace Crosson, of the Alaska Public Health Dept. was cited by Rear Adm. K. Craig for her help to men injured in a Navy patrol plane shot down in Bering Sea June 22. according to the Alaska Health bulletin.

"The plane's crew. their families and the personnel of this command," wrote Adm. Craig. "join me in sending you a grateful 'Well done' in recognition of your role in the rescue."

Commenting on the accident of the 11-crew plane, Miss Crosson wrote, "Thank goodness I was there and not in Savoonga (her other station on the island). They were certainly brave fellows, six of them badly burned on face and hands and not a noticeable peep out of them. We were all so thankful they made it to shore 12 miles below here."
