Full Text
This Day arrived here from Charlestown Mr. John Owens, who in the Month of August last sailed from London in the Brig Serjeant Glyn, Captain Morgridge, for this Place, with a valuable Cargo of Goods on Board. This Vessel, after a very tedious Passage, came on the Coast, and was up with the Bar three Times; but no Pilot going out to bring them in, they were, by a violent Gale of Wind, driven to the Southward; and proving very leaky, and their Pumps choaking with the Sand Ballast they had on Board, she went down under them, about fifty Leagues off Charlestown Bar. The Crew took to their Boat, and were seven Hours at Sea, until happily taken up by a Vessel and carried into Charlestown.
