The Chicago papers are again agitating the subject. A committee has been selected to re-investigate the matter. They find that doubt in regard to the martyrdom is entertained, and therefore, place the funds contributed at the disposal of the contributors. The following resolution sets forth the reason for this step:
Resolved, That this Committee are not authorized to discountenance or oppose the erection of a monument; therefore, as the report above mentioned shows that the truth of the story of martyrdom is highly probable although not conclusively proven, in accordance with the express wishes of many contributors and members of the Committee, who believe the circumstances of the case justify the erection of a monument to the memory of Knud Iverson, and in order to remove the present committee from further responsibility concerning the funds now subscribed, and to give each subscriber full liberty to follow their own wishes in relation to the funds donated by them, all persons so desirous may order their subscription to be appropriated in the erection of a monument to mark the spot where the remains of the young lad are lain.
Resolved. That all funds that may remain in the hand of the Treasurer uncalled for on the 1st day of January next, 1855, shall be delivered to said Committee as the subscribers to such fund may appoint. to expend the funds according to the wishes of the donors.
