Warner Oland Born at Top of the World.
Little is known about the private life of Warner Oland, the dignified, serious, artistic villain of the screen, remembered for his splendid work as Baron Huroki opposite Mrs. Vernon Castle in "Patria," who is again cast as a wily villain in support of Pearl White in Pathe's big new serial "The Fatal Ring," the second episode of which is to be shown at the Grand Theatre Thursday.
He is a born sportsman and enjoys more an afternoon on the golf links than talking about himself.
Despite his remarkable oriental appearance in the role of Baron Huroki in Patria, Warner Oland was born in Upsala, Sweden, "almost at the top of the world" as he expresses it. During his early life, he spent his leisure hours when there was daylight in the far north, skiing over the snow-clothed hills.
When he was ten years old, he was brought to America by his parents. A great ambition lurked in his mind. He aspired to become an opera singer, but his dream of picking up gold in the streets of New York was quickly dispelled.
