The first and second grades went to the Cleveland Zoo October 1. The fifth grade has enrolled thirteen boys and twelve girls. The attendance has been almost perfect with the exception of Tommy, who has been suffering with "virus flu." The fourth grade had their music test Thursday, to determine those eligible for band. The girls will be given baton lessons this year. Attendance has been very good.
HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
October 5 there will be a Geauga county College Night at Chardon high school. October 9 there will be a football game at 8:30 p.m. Thompson vs. Kenston at Chagrin Falls. There are one hundred and sixty five students in grades seven to twelve. There are twenty-six in the Senior class. We are having two of our buses repainted. We chose our cheerleaders, they are: Bert Morehouse, Arlene Bender, Jeanette Sidley, Jean Heckel, Jane Saxe, Clarice Paine and Nancy Howell. We have played two football games so far and lost both of them by one and two point margins because of the "extra points." Garrettsville 14-Thompson 12; Middlefield 13-Thompson 12. The clubs activity period, this year are: F.H.A., Student Council, Y-Teens, Jr. Y-Teens, Journalism, G.A.A., Varsity, Hi-Y, Jr. Hi-Y, National Honor Society, and Quill and Scroll. The Sophomores had a party in the gym. Mrs. Dade, the American Red Cross nurse is conducting a course in the senior health class. On completion of this course each student will receive a certificate from the American Red Cross and the Civil Defense. We had a prebaking contest and the winner goes to Chardon October 9 to be in the Geauga county contest. Participants were: Arlene Bender, Bert Morehouse, Karen Heckel, Nancy Stevens, Kathryn Warner, and Barbara Reid. The winners were Barbara Reid, first and Bert Morehouse, second. The judges were Mrs. John Lausin and Mrs. Raymond Knuth. The Thompson high school band gave a very successful dinner Sunday, September 26, in an effort to help raise money for new band uniforms.
