MARTINSBURG, March 9.
Notwithstanding the many charges that have been brought against the political creed of Mr. Adams, there are few who regard him as deficient in talents or wanting integrity. Has he not rendered many great and singular services to his country? Through the stormy period of our revolution, he seemed actuated by no other view than the sovereignty and the liberty of America. Firm and independent in mind, there is little danger of being estranged from the public good, by the arts and devices of those who seek their own happiness in the general misery. It is fortunate for America, that Mr. Adams and Mr. Jefferson [characters of such distinguished merit] have been called upon at this hour of difficulty and danger, to guard her interests and manage her councils. One imprudent step, at this perilous time, would inflict a severe and painful wound on the United States.
