What Governor-Elect Is Likely To Do.
Governor-elect George L. Lilley, has said that he would serve out the December session of the present Congress.
This looks as if he will be holding a State office and a Federal office at one and the same time for two months. In the month of December he can be in Washington without the Connecticut governorship bothering him.
Thereafter and up to March 4, he must needs give his attention either to the congressman office or the office of governor.
Some have said that the next Legislature might pass a so-called healing act to provide for the filling of the interim between the time Mr. Lilley takes the office of governor and the close of the congressional term. This does not seem possible with the United States constitution saying congressmen must be chosen direct by the people.
It is generally believed that Mr. Lilley will serve as congressman in Washington up to Jan. 1, and then try to pair off on voting with some Democrat in the present Congress. It is believed this can be done and then neither side in Congress can gain on the vote because of Lilley's absence till the adjournment sine die.
Several of the personal friends of Lilley who were at the Norfolk Inn had not returned to New Haven today.
The whole party will break up tomorrow.
