A fiendish deed was committed last Wednesday night near Jonesville, the county seat of Lee county. An old lady by the name of Dunlan, who has been an invalid for years with rheumatism, was burned to death in her house by an incendiary. Her grandson, John McFarland, and a man named John Patton, have been arrested on suspicion and lodged in our county jail. McFarland has lived with Mrs. Dunlan for some time, and last Wednesday they fell out. McFarland left the house, making some threats against the old lady. During the night the neighbors heard the cries of the old lady, and upon going to the house found it in flames, and the old lady upon the floor, burned literally to a charred mass, and lifeless. It was suspected that she had been robbed and then burned to cover the crime.
