Full Text
Commissioner Wray Taylor has received a letter from Professor Koebele, government entomologist. He wrote from Alameda, Cal., his former home, where he was getting better of a very severe cold.
Professor Koebele had met his old friend, Prof. Schwarz of the Agricultural department at Washington. This man is a botanist and entomologist, and had been sometime in California looking up an antidote to an insect pest inimical to the Smyrna fig. He had succeeded in his quest and the Hawaiian entomologist will utilize the discovery in these Islands.
Mr. Taylor has received a letter from the Agricultural department advising him of the shipment of a hundred pounds of lupin seed. The lupin is a valuable forage plant.
There is still some of the latest consignment of sorghum seed on hand.
Allen Herbert, the enthusiastic horticulturist, is doing all he can to extend the cultivation of the sunflower.
