MUZZLING THE PRESS.--Robert C. Matherson, one of the editors of the "Genius of Liberty," published in Vera Cruz, during its occupation by our army, has obtained judgment, at New Orleans for $10,000 against Col. Harry Wilson, then civil and military Governor of Vera Cruz, as damages for his arrest and imprisonment, and being sent out of the country, for a certain alleged libellous article which appeared in the paper at that time. Matherson alleges that a court martial at Vera Cruz refused to take cognizance of the charge. In his defence, Col. Wilson held that the article attempted to excite disaffection among the citizens, opposing his decrees, &c., but the Colonel did not finally appear to sustain his answer.
