Full Text
Excuses are generally lame. One of the lamest excuses that has ever come to the notice of this writer was Representative William H. Sutphin's excuse for not voting on the Army extension service bill. He said he didn't hear his name called. Even if that were true, he is guilty of unpardonable inattention at a time when the entire nation had its ears pricked to HEAR the decision on one of the most vital issues in the history of the country. Undoubtedly, he will HEAR the reverberations from his constituents when the time comes.
