THE FARMINGTON MANIAC.—We tender to the Editor of the Hartford Times, our thanks, for the very civil manner in which he has been pleased to speak of us, and at the same moment we will add, that he cannot be more anxious than we are to ascertain the verity of the article we published in relation to the wretched sufferer, whose misfortunes elicited the paragraph which he has taken under consideration. Our information was obtained from an unquestionable source—from a gentleman who would not attempt to impose upon us, if he could and was corroborated by a person from Farmington, who was totally unknown to our informant.
The article would not have found a place in our paper, had we not had a respectable name for its publication, and as it has caused some excitement, we cannot but hope that the facts will be sought after by those who feel interested. We have no doubt of the truth of the statement, but if it should prove to be false or exaggerated, we shall be among the first to correct the error, into which we may have been unintentionally led. We certainly shall not shrink from an investigation—nor shall we refuse to do justice to the citizens of Connecticut.
