CHARLESTON: (S.C.) May 18.

Whitsun-Monday being a day of rest and recreation for servants, &c. several negroes of superior taste and genius, soaring above the hacknied amusements of the banjo, quash,&c. thought proper to treat their friends with a theatrical representation of the Revenge, with Miss in her Teens. The scene of action was a cellar on the green, which was fitted up for the reception of company, and in order to exclude improper persons, tickets were issued at half a crown each; there being in this city a sort of Killjoys, called the watch, whose rude interposition might perhaps have interrupted the entertainment, the audience were enjoined to suppress such emotions as the excellence of the performers might be naturally expected to create, and by all means preserve silence. About ten o'clock the curtain drew up to a crowded audience, all of whom were highly delighted by the bellowings of the princely Zanga, who tickled the tender hearts of the fair Sex, they one and all declaring 'dey neber aw de like' But whether Melpomene was grieved to see the buskin in danger of being quartered with the sock, and therefore resolved upon rescuing her rites from ridicule--or from what other latent cause, it is difficult to say, but alas! about the middle of the play an outcry was raised that the constables were coming in. Away scampered Zanga, his soft mistress Isabella, Leonora, in short the whole dramatis personae leaving the sable coloured auditory to form a solemn procession to the guard house.
