Judge Taft Said to Be Promised a Supreme Court Justiceship.

CINCINNATI, Feb. 8.--It is said by men in this city supposed to be in touch with the Administration that, on account of his relinquishing a life office to accept the Presidency of the Philippine Commission, Judge William H. Taft has the promise of another life office when his duties in the archipelago are ended. It is understood that before Mr. McKinley's term of office expires he will find a place for Taft on the bench of the United States Supreme Court.

While Judge Henry T. Severens, of Michigan, has been appointed to succeed Judge Taft, Judge Horace H. Lurton, of Tennessee, who ranked next to Judge Taft, becomes senior Circuit Judge of the Sixth Federal Court.
