We are very easy here with respect to the formidable armament preparing at Cadiz, though said to be intended against our Settlements in America, our places in that part of the world being in the best state of defence, our troops numerous, and trade the most flourishing. The fleet of two ships of 60 guns, two of 50, one of 44, a new vessel of 32, and another of 30, forming in the whole nine ships of war, without including others of less force or burthen. All the above are under the orders of the Marquis de la Brado, and are stationed at Rio Janeiro, the Bay of St. Catherine, Rio Grande, and Rio Pardo.
The commander is an English officer, who has hoisted a flag on board the St. Catherine. The land forces consist of between ten and twelve thousand men, and two battalions of artillery.
