The Massachusetts legislature have passed resolutions affirming the constitutionality of the act of Congress establishing the U. S. Bank, declaring that all state laws to defeat the operation of the act are void, and that the Supreme Court is the constitutional tribunal to decide all cases of difference between the U. States and the different states. The concluding resolution is, "that the constitutional exercise and preservation of the judicial power of the United States, is essential to the safety and prosperity of the union: and that while the legislature will be ever ready to afford its aid to any state, against manifest usurpation, or real encroachments upon its rights, it will also yield a reasonable confidence and support to all the departments of the national government, so long as they continue in the rightful exercise of their constitutional powers."
