A fire was discovered, on Friday, 15th ult., in the rear of the St. Lawrence Hotel, Philadelphia. The damages are set down at $2000 fully insured. While the fire was raging in the Hotel, a lady who was confined to bed in one of the rooms, adjacent to the fire, with inflammatory rheumatism, had been entirely forgotten, until it was too late to reach her through the fire and smoke. Parties got on the roof and hallooed to her to not open the door of her room, but to endeavor to reach the window, and hoist it, so as to escape strangulation from the smoke. She did so, and the parties on the roof, fearful that she would leap from the window, encouraged her by conversing with her, making her believe that she was in no danger; they kept up the conversation until the fire was put out, and on reaching where she was, they found that the fright had effected an entire cure.
