LAZARETTO, June 13.

Captain Franklin of the brig North Star, from New-Orleans, and at anchor here, states that at the time of his departure, arrangements were making by the Americans for taking possession of Baton Rouge. Who are the principal agents in the project is kept a profound secret.

Baton Rouge certainly a very desirable tract of country. Its site is on the Mississippi, about 170 miles above New Orleans, and extends about nine leagues on both sides of the river.

The soil is very fertile and well watered, and is said to contain a greater number of cotton plantations than any country of equal extent in Louisiana. Phil. Dem. Press.
