REVIVAL AT SHREWSBURY.—Brother Murray: Believing that it would cheer the lovers of Christ and of souls, to hear of the work of God in the salvation of sinners, I beg leave to communicate, through the Telegraph, what the Lord is doing among, and for, us. The church in this place is small in numbers, weak in ability, and surrounded with infidelity; but this withering influence has been counteracted by the Lord Jehovah, for which I praise him, and rejoice that he reigneth.

I began to labor with this people, last spring, one half of the time. The church was then low, and but little concern was manifested for the honor of God, and but little feeling tending to the discharge of religious duties. Yet a few had a mind to work, and build the waste places of Zion. The Lord has succeeded the labors of his people, until prayer and praise are heard from the hills and the valleys.

On the first of this month, we commenced a season of protracted worship, under circumstances very discouraging, and which called for the energy and faith of God's people. But as the meeting progressed the interest increased, until the prodigal was seen returning, and sinners coming to the anxious seat, in whose countenances might be read, "Sirs we would see Jesus."

The hearts of God's people were warmed, and a general revival was experienced through the church. Last Sabbath I baptized sixty-three of my own family—all rejoicing in hope of the glory of God. More are expected soon to follow their Lord and master in this solemn ordinance.

O! that God would go forth in the greatness of his strength, over the length and breadth of the land, regulating those of the ministry who, in the loftiness of their imaginations, speak only pleasing things to the ear, while thousands are perishing for lack of bread, and for want of vision. O! that the Lord would sound his fearful voice, like peals of thunder, and exert the influence of his spirit like vivid lightning, until the church is purified—the streams of intemperance dried up—until the oppressed are set free—until the haunts of licentiousness, in city, village, and hamlet, are broken up, and their fragments scattered to the four winds of heaven—until the peaceable reign of our Lord Jesus Christ become complete and men learn war no more.

LELAND HUNTLEY

Shrewsbury, Nov. 15, 1837.

I wish to express the warmest feeling of gratitude, in behalf of the church, to those ministering brethren who came to our help.

L. H.
