BRIEF MENTION OF MINOR ITEMS OF
LOCAL AFFAIRS.
—The banks of the city were all closed
today.
—Freight trains on the B. & M. were
abandoned today.
—McFadden's Uncle Tom's Cabin to-
morrow and Saturday night.
—A certain young Adonis of this city
refers to his best girl as his love de re-
sistance.
—The Thanksgiving services held
throughout the city today were all pret-
ty well attended.
—The river and Indian Creek were
alive today with boys who were hugely
enjoying their holiday.
—It was quiet on the streets today
which we take it, means that those who
were not about were giving thanks.
—A friend of the Express says he is
praying that his days may be length-
ened until Beatrice has a new cemetery.
—Carpenters and masons who had
work on unfinished buildings were loth
to lose any time today and were taking
advantage of the warm atmosphere.
—The small boy who was trying to
sell one of our Chinese laundrymen a
rat terrier the other day had never been
told, perhaps, of the peculiar tastes of
the Chinese. The rat terriers in China
starved to death centuries ago.
—An old fashioned and weather beat-
en stage coach stands in front of a
Sixth street wagon shop, and is a forei-
ble reminder of days gone by when
these were our only style and class of
public conveyances from town to town

—Byron Bradt and son, Master Hom-
er, spent yesterday in Lincoln.
—A. J. Dunn, state agent for the
Singer sewing machine, is in the city.
—Prof. M. D. Horham went to Te-
cumseh today to attend the S. E. N.
T. A.
—Mr. and Mrs. Will Vaill, of Wy-
more, came up to visit Mr. Vaill's par-
ents today noon.
—Harry Phillips went west today, in-
tending to take a trip over the new
Curtis branch of the B. & M.
—Mr. and Mrs. A. D. MeCandless
went to Falls City today noon to visit
with the family of Judge Martin.
—Elmer Gessell, proprietor of the
Odell Optic, came up yesterday to spend
Thanksgiving with friends in the city.
—Chas. Barbour, an old-time Beat-
rice boy, passed through the city today
noon enroute for Lincoln where he in-
tended eating Thanksgiving turkey.
—Mrs. J. E. Hill and two youngest
children, started today noon for Los
Angeles, Calif., where they will spend
the winter. Mrs. Hill's departure for
California was somewhat sooner than
anticipated, owing to the dangerous ill-
ness of her mother.
