After three months spent in familiarizing himself with the fur and game resources of the Territory during which time he cultivated a sort of head-patting acquaintance with many of the forest monarchs, Paul G. Redington, head of the Biological Survey, returned to Juneau on the Steamer Alaska and left with Governor Parks and the Jardine party on the Fisheries boat, Brant, for a visit to Sitka and intermediate points.

Mr. Redington came to Alaska for the purpose of obtaining first hand information relative to the Department of which he is chief and he went about it in the best possible manner to secure it—going into the sections where the fur and game animals abound in greatest numbers.

After traveling over a large part of the Territory, accompanied by H. W. Tarhune, head of the Department for Alaska, Mr. Redington is in position to speak authoritatively on the needs of his Department if the fur and game of Alaska is to be perpetuated and this, he says can only be done by exercising more care and attention, increasing the number of game wardens and to do this more money must be appropriated, not only in the way of reimbursement of the increased staff required, but for the payment of bounties on wolves and coyotes which are rapidly increasing in numbers, especially the coyotes, and as their increase, there is a corresponding decrease in the animals and birds of the country on which they prey.

Mr. Redington will return to his headquarters in the National capital armed and equipped with data on the wild life of Alaska that will, no doubt be a revelation to the solons of Congress.
