Officials Declare Mine and Mill Near Pioche Will Soon be Started—Much Ore Blocked Out.
Another mine in the Pioche country will shortly begin activities again and that is the Gold Chief Mining company, in the Gold Chief district. H. W. Hand, of Portland, Ore., and E. A. Hodges of Pioche, officials of the company, arrived in Salt Lake this morning to purchase the remaining plant. They already have installed the necessary machinery for the cyanide process and the pipe line, hoist and the necessary buildings for the plant. The purchases that are to be made are a compressor for running the rock crusher and the pumping outfit and necessary engines and pumps.
A large amount of work has been done on the property which has developed into a large low grade gold mine. By means of an incline shaft upwards of 80,000 tons of ore have been developed which will average better than $5 to the ton some of it running $12 a ton and better. The ore has been blocked out ready to mine.
A rock crusher, two and a half miles of pipe line, settling tanks and other equipment including a 60 hp hoist over the shaft have been installed. With the machinery being purchased today the property will be fully equipped with an up-to-date cyaniding plant.
As most of the ore in the mine is quite fine and breaks very easily it will be no trouble to break it and put it in the solutions direct. As there are no problems to work out the company can begin producing from the moment the plant starts.
"Pioche is picking up and it will not be long before the camp will be in full swing again," said Mr. Hodges. "Business is already getting better.
"The Mendha Nevada is shipping from two to three cars of ore a week and it is hardly showing on the mine. The company could probably do much better if necessary. The Consolidated Pioche is putting down its shaft as fast as possible and making about five feet a day.
"A number of other properties are being put in shape to start work and before long the camp will be more lively than it ever was."
