Extract of a Letter from New York, to a Gentleman in town, dated Sept. 6, 1762.

Last Night arrived here the Enterprize Man of War of 40 Guns, in 17 Days from the HAVANNAH, in whom came Major Moncrief, with Dispatches for General Amherst: The Enterprize is to sail again this Day to join Lord Colvill. The Terms the Spaniards were to have is unknown to any of the Officers, but the greatest Part of the Island have submitted to our Troops....The immense Treasure they got is to be equally divided between the Army and Navy....The Ships are getting ready to proceed for England; they purpose to divide the Spanish Seamen among our Ships, and put a Number of ours into theirs, that they may be enabled to get them home.....This is a glorious Acquisition, and will greatly humble the Spaniards; they defended the Place with incredible Bravery; their Seamen behaved gallantly, but had near 3000 of them killed during the Siege, besides many by sickness; their Troops also suffered extremely, but their whole Loss not yet known.....
