Full Text
Watt Shipp, who has charge of the motorcycle race meet which is to be pulled off at the fair grounds race track during the cherry fair, has received letters from the Indian, Flying Merkel and Excelsior people promising to have their crack riders on the scratch when the races are called.
Harry Brant, Gus Peppel and Will Page will represent the Flying Merkel company; Carl Rose and two other riders will be here with the Excelsior machines, and the Indian company will have at least five of their crack professional riders on hand for the meet. The Harley-Davidson and Pope companies have not yet sent in their entries, but will do so in a few days.
The local riders are taking considerable interest in the races on account of the fat purses hung up for the two amateur riders and firms handling motorcycles in other towns of the valley are sending in inquiries regarding the races, and many of the Salem motorcyclists are assisting in posting up bills advertising the race meet and are carrying posters on their machines.
