Improvement of cotton, rice, corn and other important crops in Arkansas will be the chief points discussed at the Seventh Annual Convention of the Arkansas Seed Grower's Association meeting at Little Rock, January 13, according to word received by S. D. Carpenter county agricultural agent of Mississippi county from D. J. Burleson, secretary of the association.
Burleson, who is also Extension agronomist, College of Agriculture, University of Arkansas, declares that the meeting this year will be of special interest to Arkansas growers, Carpenter said.
President J. F. Tompkins of Burdette will preside. M. W. H. Collins of Wilson will discuss "Cotton Improvement"; A. H. Price, Extension rice agent, Stuttgart, will discuss "Rice Improvement", and D. J. Burleson Corn improvement.
J. O. Ware, cotton specialist, Fayetteville, will give "Results of Experiments with Cotton" at the Arkansas stations.
The noon luncheon will be featured by the awarding of the various trophies awarded by different organizations. In the afternoon Paul Millar, chief inspector of the state plant board, will talk on "The Situation Relative to Imported Seed." J. E. Casey, state seed analyst of Fayetteville, will tell of the "Work of the State Seed Laboratory," and this will be followed by a round table discussion on standards for seed certification and other topics of interest to seed association members.
A large delegation from Mississippi County should attend this meeting if possible, Carpenter said.
