SENIORS RESOLUTION.
University Second Year Men Agree to Aid in Suppression of Freshmen -Officers Named.
Madison, Wis., Oct. 22.-[Special.]-The sophomore class held a meeting yesterday afternoon in the auditorium of Main hall, and among other things, ratified the resolutions presented to them by a committee of seniors. These resolutions forbid the freshmen from wearing derby hats, smoking pipes on the street, carrying canes and sitting on the gymnasium fence. The juniors will ratify the resolutions at an early meeting. The freshmen have acquiesced in the restrictions which the upper classmen have put upon them, and the expected freshman-senior rush will not come off.
The sophomores elected the following officers:
President, A. H. Heyroth, Manitowoc; vice president, Miss Margery Roberts, Milwaukee; secretary, R. D. Coyner, Rockford, Ill.; treasurer, R. M. Adams, Dunbar; sergeant-at-arms, A. H. Lambeck, Milwaukee.
Prof. Joseph Jastrow spoke at convocation on the "Life of Helen Keller," giving an interesting sketch of this remarkable girl, with whom he is personally acquainted. Prof. Jastrow read several passages from Miss Keller's book and said that all who are striving for knowledge should draw an inspiration from her life. Convocation will be addressed next Friday by Prof. Dowd of the department of sociology on "The Social Aspect of Art."
