Full Text

Death of Desha—A verbal account of the death of Desha reached Frankfort, Ky. on the 15th ult; it was supposed that he died on Tuesday, 11th ult. He had severed the windpipe entirely, but none of the blood vessels were touched. A portion of the blood, it is said, flowed into the lungs down the windpipe, sufficiently to cause his death, if the wound itself did not; and a more painful and horrid death than the one thus occasioned, can hardly be imagined. It is stated that for some time past, Desha had been disposed to indulge in excessive drinking, and not being restrained, had been much of the time in a state of intoxication. It seemed most probable that such was his condition when he committed the act and wrote the sentence, in which he declared his innocence of the murder of Baker, for which he was in prison.
