To the Editor of the Mercantile Advertiser.
SIR,
I read with pleasure in the Mercantile Advertiser two weeks ago the beautiful Latin Epitaph of Dr. Lowth on his Daughter, "Cara Maria vale." &c. as well as the excellent English version which accompanied it. I have in my possession a translation which approaches nearer to the Latin original than that of the Crewkerne Scholar, though it partakes not so largely of the spirit of Poetry. If you think proper to insert it, it is at your service, and I shall be happy to see it occupy a corner in your paper.

"CHILD OF MY SOUL! thou more than daughter dear, Ingenious, pious, chaste, and good, adieu! Angel, adieu! When happier worlds appear, May the same heaven admit thy FATHER too Then will he cry-" Maria, come, my love! Return to my embrace, and heav'nly joys improve,""
