Dallas Owner To Be Honored

DALLAS, TEXAS -(ANP)- The Wednesday Noonday Luncheon Club of Moorland Branch YMCA of Dallas is spearheading a "Dick Burnett Appreciation" night that will be held between games of a double header at Burnett Field, Sunday, August 3, when the Eagles will tangle with the Oklahoma City Indians.

A Citizens' Committee, headed by chairmen from a cross-section of Dallas community life, has been perfected for this effort which will honor Eagle owner, R. W. (Dick) Burnett, for his pioneering in bringing to Texas league baseball its first Negro player, Dave Hoskins.

An inscribed plaque will be presented the honoree on behalf of the Committee, for his interracial and inter-cultural achievements. Howard Daniels, president of the Noonday Luncheon Club and general chairman of the Citizen's Committee, will make the official presentation.

Also on the program will be Calvin Stephens, a June graduate of Lincoln high school, who will sing "Old Man River." Stephens is the winner of a $2,000 four-year scholarship award from the Dallas Kiwanis Club.
