BETTY MULLEN PLACES FIRST IN 6th GRADE IN THE COUNTY HOSPITAL ESSAY CONTEST

There is urgent need for a county hospital in Sanders County. A county hospital is not a charitable institution for the poor, a place where they will be made to feel lost and forgotten. It is a modern equipped building erected and paid for by the county with money raised by the taxpayers, rented by the county to a competent party to provide care for the old people who are unable to care for themselves. This hospital will care for the sick of our community, all of us who are ill, yet who can pay, may receive hospitalization.

We demand modern conveniences and all improvements available. We want good roads, on which to drive our automobiles. We build the best modern schools. We provide the latest methods of education and the best teachers are hired to teach the boys and girls of the county. We take these things for granted. Some of these modern schools and fine roads which we consider necessities were paid for by the very same old people, whom we are apt to forget.

We are spending many hundreds of dollars each month to out of the county hospitals for patients who require hospitalization. This money might be better spent maintaining our own hospital. Many of our old age patients are being cared for by individuals who cannot provide the adequate care and comfort of a modern hospital.

We pride ourselves on being great humanitarians. We donate huge sums yearly for worthy causes. Here is our opportunity to help an old friend, a neighbor and perhaps ourselves.
