SIX SCHOLARSHIPS
EFFECTIVE SEPT. 18

An even half dozen students will be able to attend either Richmond college or Westhampton college the coming session free from all tuition charges as the result of the action of six donors of scholarships.

Announcement was made yesterday by President F. W. Boatwright that W. S. Rhoads, Thomas G. Sydnor, Colonel Thomas B. McAdams and his mother, Mrs. George B. McAdams; Archer G. Jones, the Richmond Dry Goods Company, and Sydnor & Hundley had arranged to have the scholarships which they endowed during the recent $300,000 campaign for the two colleges become operative September 18.

Mr. Jones founded his scholarship in honor of his father, Tiberius Gracchus Jones, second president of Richmond college, and T. G. Sydnor established his to memorialize the name of his father, William B. Sydnor. During the lifetime of the donors, Colonel and Mrs. McAdams will exercise the right of nomination of the user of their scholarship. A clause inserted when the scholarship was founded provides that upon the death of the donors the right of appointment is to rest with the vestrymen of St. Paul's Episcopal church.

All the scholarships were given during the recent million-dollar campaign of the twin colleges. Each was established at a cost of $2,000 and will provide free tuition in perpetuity for one student either in Richmond college for men or Westhampton college for women.

President Boatwright also announced founding of two additional scholarships in memory of young men who lost their lives fighting in France. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Robinson, of Baltimore, have given a full scholarship in memory of their son, First Lieutenant Richard Dodson Robinson, who was killed while leading his platoon on the Vesle river last July.

Scottsville Baptist church will endow a scholarship to the memory of Edward Walker Beal, who also died while fighting in France. News of action of the church was furnished President Boatwright by the pastor, Rev. L. H. Walton.
