The 1916 building season in North Dakota will be one of the most active the state has ever experienced.
In the matter of municipal improvements, the year also bids fair to establish a record. Fargo seems likely to take the lead. In addition to approximately $200,000 worth of paving operations, and the possibility that a $100,000 sewer construction job will be awarded, many building enterprises are under way. Seven apartment houses are being erected. About 250 to 300 residences are to be constructed; St. Luke's hospital will have a $50,000 addition; three new hotels, providing 155 more rooms, are about to be commenced.
Many two and three-story brick business blocks are to be erected.
At Mandan, with a $165,000 paving contract already let, other building work is pending that will bring the total improvements there in excess of $400,000 or $500,000.
Minot has let $60,000 worth of sidewalk improvement, and about the same for new paving, and there are to be 250 new residences with a dozen new business blocks.
Bismarck has fostered a movement for a paving job that will cost about $100,000, and it likely will be pushed through. That city is getting a new gas plant, about 200 new residences and numerous new blocks.
New building at the state asylum for the insane, at Jamestown, costing about $200,000, have been awarded. The Grand Pacific hotel, at Bismarck, and the Frederick at Grand Forks, will be enlarged by the addition of another story, and new hotels will be built at Rolla, Jamestown, Goldein and Fairmount.
School building operations are under way, or will be carried out this year, at Grand Forks, where a $100,000 high school will be erected; at Williston, Buffalo, Hettinger, Powers Lake, Grand Rapids, Drake, Sheldon, Bowman, Milton, Nome, Plaza, Valley City, Sherbrooke, South Heart and Osnabrook.
Church construction work will be taken care of in Fargo, Milnor, Cayuga, Ellendale, Makoti, Wahpeton, Leeds, Portland, Devils Lake and Geneseo.
Theaters and lodge homes are planned at Beach, Moorhead, Jamestown, Cooperstown, Warwick and Cavalier.
