"The proprietors and editors being Messrs Wood & Lacy, socially gentlemen but politically full blooded Democrats of the Hampton school."
Such slurs from such a source are to be expected. During the war the editor of the Register skulked away from the conflict, while the editor of the Democrat put in about four years and five months service, yet the Register man in the estimation of the Press is a patriot while the brave boys who perilled life and limb in their country's service, are "Hampton democrats." The Register editorially says there is favoritism in the Press' article and we concur in its statement, for the evidence of its truth is contained in the above slur of the Press in connection with its notice of the Register.
