Full Text

The Tables Turned,—Our readers will recollect that Mr. Ritchie. the able editor of the Richmond Enquirer, was removed, by the Legislature of Virginia, from the station of printer for that body, which he had occupied for a number of years, and performed the work with entire satisfaction. The two houses went into an election on Tuesday last, and after a long and animated debate, it resulted as follows: in the House. for Mr. Ritchie, 76, for Mr. Shepherd, 55; and in the Senate, for Mr. Ritchie, 19, for Mr. Shepherd, 13; giving to the former; in joint vote, a majority of 27. It will be perceived that the majority is as large as our friends have ever claimed, and that the representations of our opponents respecting the relative strength of the parties in the Legislature have been completely falsified.

We congratulate Mr. Ritchie and our political friends generally on account of this result, as it has done justice to a firm and faithful friend to republican principles, to the rights of the people, and the honor of the country.

The opposition, in their efforts to injure Mr. Ritchie, have done a serious injury to Mr. Shepherd whom they pretended to serve. Mr. Shepherd
