"Polly" Pease, the young man who, in company with "Speck" Edwards, both of near Laclede, abducted Anna Love and Gertrude Tooey, two Brookfield girls, aged about 16 years, and made quite a tour with them in a covered wagon, has escaped the clutches of the law by marrying the Love girl, her parents having consented to the union and refusing to prosecute Pease. Edwards, however, has not been so fortunate, as the Tooey girl's parents will not give their consent for their daughter to marry the author of her ruin. Edwards will be tried on a charge of seduction and will set up as a defense his willingness to marry his victim.
